When ChatGPT and Perplexity answer, where is your brand?

TRAIL Search is an AEO (Answer Engine Optimization) and GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) diagnosis product. It measures how AI answers the questions your customers ask in Korean, finds where your brand is missing, and shows you what to fix.You get a question list, a question-by-engine visibility table, a prioritized list of fixes, and the change from one round to the next.Start with 10 questions, no card required.

There are reasons your brand doesn't show up in AI search.

What moved you up the search rankings won't get you into the answer. Know these three things first, and what to fix becomes clear.

AI answers pass through three gates

An answer engine first retrieves candidate documents, then re-selects only the top 10 or so, and finally cites a few in the answer itself. Miss one gate and your visibility is zero. Polishing your copy with sophisticated vocabulary can actually knock you out at the first gate, retrieval (in the paper's experiments, a 14% drop in retrieval hit rate).

A high search ranking doesn't mean you're in the answer

When engines chose which documents to cite, the strongest factor was freshness, such as publish and update dates, followed by semantic HTML and structured data (in the paper's experiments, a freshness correlation of 0.68). What a rank tracker shows you and why you're missing from an AI answer are two different questions.

One query is not a conclusion

Ask the same question twice and the answer shifts a little each time. So TRAIL Search asks each question several times and uses the median, labels anything under 3 runs a preliminary estimate, and marks an engine that returned no valid answer as unmeasured rather than 0%. A result counts as confirmed only from 7 runs.

TRAIL Search works in four steps.

Each step takes something in, gives something back, and settles a different decision. Start with whichever step you need.

  1. 01

    Discover

    You provide
Your brand name and site URL
    You get
A list of Korean questions your customers are likely to ask search engines and AI, organized by buying-journey stage, with the questions you have no content for flagged.
    You decide
    Which questions to tackle first.
  2. 02

    Measure

    You provide
The question list and the engines on your plan
    You get
A question-by-engine visibility table, a ranking of the brands cited alongside yours, and the source URLs each answer cited. Every cell is stamped with the engine and the time it was checked.
    You decide
Which engines and which competitive set to focus on.
  3. 03

    Improve

    You provide
Your site URL (up to 5 pages at a time)
    You get
A prioritized list of fixes: anything blocking crawlers first, then structure, then content. You also get a ready-to-use llms.txt (the guide file AI reads to understand your site), structured data files, and the topics you have no content for.
    You decide
What to fix first, and what to write.
  4. 04

    Verify

    You provide
A re-run of the same questions after your fixes
    You get
The difference from the previous round and, as rounds accumulate, your mention-rate trend. Connect Google Analytics and Search Console to see visits from AI search separately.
    You decide
Whether to keep going or change course.

This is what you get.

Instead of screenshots, here is the structure of the output itself. Values are examples, not real results.

We start with why the numbers can be trusted.

Visibility moves with your content and your market. So before the number, we show you the conditions it came from.

  • Only questions that don't name a brand count toward share of voice.

A question like 'Is brand X any good?' is bound to bring that brand up in the answer, so we flag those separately and leave them out of the share denominator.

  • A period where the question set changed is never called an improvement.

Change the questions and the numbers change. So any period with a different set is marked as a composition change, which keeps a swapped set from looking like progress, and we withhold conclusions when the sample or the observation window is too small.

  • Every result carries the engine, the question, and the time it was checked.

You can reopen any past round and see the answer and its sources as they were. Full answer text is kept for 90 days; after that, the mention record remains.

What decides the order of fixes

The weights behind our recommendations come from published research. For example, the finding that changing only the structure, with the content left as is, raised citations by 17.3% (in the paper's experiments) is the basis for the structure items. We are preparing to submit our own methodology as a full paper to an international peer-reviewed conference in information retrieval (early October 2026), and until the results are in, we don't put a number on its effect.

Who builds it

TRAIL Search, TRAIL Studio, and TRAIL Perform are SaaS products run by TRAIL Labs. A researcher-founder designs and runs them. He spent five years in research at Seoul National University's graduate school of AI, completing the PhD coursework, and three years as CTO in marketing and advertising agency work. This site is audited and fixed with the same diagnosis.

What we don't promise

We don't promise visibility or a position in AI answers. What we do is record what was measured, what was changed, and what was observed afterward. That record becomes the basis for your next decision.

Who starts, and with which question

For teams that need to know how their brand appears in AI answers. Each starts with a different question and leans on different steps.

Starting questions and steps used most, by audience

Frequently asked questions

The five questions asked most before getting started.

My brand doesn’t show up in ChatGPT or Perplexity answers. How do I get it to appear?

To get your brand to show up, first find out where it’s getting stuck: crawler access, meaning, or answer selection. Take a few questions your customers would plausibly ask, check whether your brand appears in the engines’ actual answers, and then pick a fix based on the stage that’s blocked, such as lifting a crawl block or restructuring the content. The 10-step AI search visibility diagnostic walks through how to check each stage, and TRAIL Search offers this diagnosis and prioritization as a self-serve audit.

We rank high in search, so why don’t we show up in AI answers?

Because search rankings and AI answer citations are decided by different criteria. Among candidate documents, answer engines favor freshness signals like publish and modified dates, structured data, skeleton elements like headings and tables, and self-contained sentences placed near the top. Even a high-ranking page can be left out of the answer if those elements are missing. TRAIL Search’s AEO and GEO audit checks these items on every page and puts the fixes in order.

Do you guarantee AI visibility or sales?

No, we don’t. Whether your brand appears in AI answers, and whether sales go up, depends on factors we don’t control. What we do instead is keep a record of what we measured, what we changed, and what was observed afterward. TRAIL Search commits to showing the questions you’re missing from and what to fix, in priority order; TRAIL Studio to output you can actually use; and TRAIL Perform to estimates along with their assumptions and uncertainty. We keep observed facts separate from estimated effects, and when the sample or observation period is too short, we withhold a conclusion.

What data do I need to get started?

It depends on the product. TRAIL Search can start with your brand’s site address and a few questions your customers would plausibly ask; to see actual site traffic, you connect Google Analytics and Search Console. TRAIL Studio needs your brand’s voice and standards, plus the information and photos for the products you’ll create content about. TRAIL Perform needs ad spend and revenue history plus a connected ad account, and the longer the history, the narrower the estimate range.

Which AI engines does TRAIL Search check?

As currently implemented, it checks how your brand is mentioned across five engines: ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini, and Google AI Overview. It tracks the engines you select in your plan on a regular schedule, and an engine that couldn’t be measured because it returned no valid answer is marked unmeasured rather than 0%. Results are kept per engine, question, and time checked, so you can reopen any past run.

The rest, such as pricing, billing, and data retention, is collected in the FAQ.

Start by seeing how your brand gets answered.

A site URL and a few questions your customers might ask are all a first diagnosis needs.

When it's time to turn the questions from your diagnosis into content, TRAIL Studio handles production and publishing. When traffic grows and the next ad budget needs deciding, TRAIL Perform grounds the allocation. You sign up for each product separately.
