MCP Server

Setup

Step-by-step instructions for connecting the TRAIL Search MCP server.

1. Issue an API key

In the app, open Settings › Developer › API tokens and create a token. Choose Read only or Read & write, and an expiry of 30, 90, or 180 days, or never. The token is shown only once, so copy it right away.

2. Claude Code

Terminal

claude mcp add --transport http trail-search https://mcp.search.traillabs.ai/mcp \
  --header "Authorization: Bearer sk_live_YOUR_TOKEN"

3. Cursor and other clients

Clients that read an mcp.json (or similar) configuration take the URL and header like this:

mcp.json

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "trail-search": {
      "url": "https://mcp.search.traillabs.ai/mcp",
      "headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer sk_live_YOUR_TOKEN" }
    }
  }
}

4. Test the connection

curl

curl -X POST https://mcp.search.traillabs.ai/mcp \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer sk_live_YOUR_TOKEN" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -H "Accept: application/json, text/event-stream" \
  -d '{"jsonrpc":"2.0","id":1,"method":"tools/list"}'

A working connection lists the search_* tools. A missing or invalid key returns 401.

Finding your brand_id

Most tools take a brand_id. Copy it from Settings › Domains.
